When a fire broke out in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State, destroying property worth millions of naira, chaos broke out. Parts of the building and industrial sewing machines were destroyed in the alleged Thursday incident.
One of the victims, Mr Jude, who was operating a small industrial sewing factory on the building’s top floor, told reporters about his experience and blamed the fire on an electrical surge.
Due to an electrical surge that was epileptic throughout Wednesday night, the fire began at 2:30 am. That was an awful loss.
“Everything was destroyed by the fire, including six sewing machines, seven industrial sewing machines that cost roughly N1.5 million each, and unquantified cloth materials that totalled millions of naira,” he said. The landlord, Aaron Ezeobi, bemoaned the fact that he had been warning his tenant to stop using his home as a workshop and place of business.
Prior to the fire, I had previously given him a quit notice that was set to expire the following month. The prevailing high cost of building materials hurts me’, he said. Engineer Emeka Idu, a member of the House of Representatives for the Onitsha North & South Constituency, has expressed sympathy for the fire disaster’s victims. In order to prevent a health crisis, Idu advised the tenant and the building’s landlord to not take their loss personally.
He asked God to help them get over the loss quickly. After providing Mr. Jude with financial support, the lawmaker promised to research the price of the industrial sewing machines so that he could provide additional aid.
Idu also requested that the landlord notify him as soon as the burned-out building’s roof is being replaced so that he can contribute financially. “To prevent high blood pressure, which can result in stroke, please hold yourself and try not to dwell too much on your loss.
He assured, “The N200,000 is to hold yourself for now pending. Let us see how we can further assist you when you are ready to replace the sewing machines.”
