Davido, A Nigerian Afrobeats artist who has given an explanation for why he is the most followed African artist on social media.
The “With You” singer clarified that he gained more followers than his peers by being approachable and engaging with fans.
He asserted that many of his coworkers are afraid to be authentic on social media.
“I’m the most-followed African artist on social media because I’m free with my fans,” Davido stated in a recent interview with BET Talks.
I was very open at the start of my career. I used to record vlogs in which I showed my life to the world. Many African and Nigerian artists are constantly afraid to be authentic.
“I believe that living in America also greatly benefited me. due to the fact that my mind is somewhat open. I’m not claiming that my people lack knowledge.
However, let’s observe them [other artists] lounging around their homes while taking photos while wearing shorts and slippers.
Not every artist will do that. They would like to switch to something more advantageous. However, I continue to regard myself as an ordinary person.
I wear slippers and shorts when I take photos. And believe me, I show up when it’s time. Some celebrities overthink and overdo things when I returned to Nigeria.
I said, “No, just relax.” Simply follow the current. It should be that way, in my opinion.
