According to the Daily Post, unidentified gunmen reportedly kidnapped petrol dealer Alhaji Abbas and his manager Abubakar Issa on Friday in Gbugbu, Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State.
Following the conclusion of operations at the Daniyan Shaba Global Investment Filling station in Gbugbu town, the victims were kidnapped. After the attackers allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money, they were kidnapped.
The gunmen have demanded a N200 million ransom to free them after the kidnapping. Alhaji Abbas’s car was set on fire as a result of the bandits’ brutal operation.
The bandits allegedly arrived on motorcycles. The attack is a troubling recurrence of attacks on Alhaji Abbas, who had escaped from a previous run-in with bandits. The most recent kidnapping has shocked the neighbourhood and sparked worries about the growing level of insecurity there.
According to a source with knowledge of the matter, “this is not the first time Alhaji Abbas has been attacked,” and “it is extremely concerning that they targeted him once more and were successful in kidnapping him and his manager this time.
“According to locals who saw the attack’s aftermath, the bandits withdrew into a nearby forest, which is thought to have been their hiding place.
In order to address the increasing insecurity in the state’s Edu Local Government Area, the community is now pleading with the state government and security forces to act immediately.
An eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous voiced concerns about how it might affect farming operations.
The witness bemoaned that “if this insecurity continues to loom over us, it will force them to abandon their farms, which will have severe consequences for our community.
We are entering the rainy season, and our farmers need to go to their farmlands,” the witness said. Alhaji Abbas and Abubakar Issa’s whereabouts were still unknown as of Sunday morning, leaving the community in fear and their families in distress. Since attempts to contact SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state police command spokesperson, in Ilorin on Sunday were unsuccessful, authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
The incident emphasises how urgently the government must step up security and take decisive action to stop banditry in the area and protect the safety and security of the people living in the Edu Local Government Area.
