The Nigerian fashion entrepreneur and outspoken feminist Fisayo Longe is causing a stir on the internet, not because of her advocacy or brand, but rather because of her recent involvement and the social media buzz it has created. Shortly after Longe became engaged and posted a tearful video of the proposal, the backlash started.

Many people congratulated her, but not everyone was so understanding. Her old posts, including one from 2020 in which she boldly declared, “I do not rate men,” were swiftly unearthed by Twitter users.

Her history of disparaging Nigerian men and marriage, combined with this resurfaced tweet, caused a domino effect.

She was called a hypocrite by some users, who ridiculed her transition from “anti-marriage feminist” views to celebrations of emotional engagement.

“This same Fisayo Longe, who was a threat to Feminazi and Prefect for ‘Men are scm’, is getting married!” wrote one user. * “Now she’s engaged and werey even dey drop tears,” said another. Longe didn’t remain quiet in the heat.

“Unfortunately for you all, my days of going back and forth with Nigerian men on Twitter are so over,” she responded sharply on Twitter to silence the criticism. Run it up.
