
The victims who were kidnapped this week from a general hospital in Katsina State’s Kankara local government area are being held hostage by bandits for N540 million. A doctor was shot and one other person was wounded in the hospital attack on Tuesday, January 21.
When the hospital was attacked by bandits and some of its employees were abducted, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire was shot. One of the abducted victims is Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, who is the head of the hospital’s nursing department and an assistant director of nursing services.
According to reports, the attackers wanted N270 million in ransom to free the nurse. The other hospital employees and some employees of a fertiliser factory who were abducted near the hospital during the attack have also been demanded N270 million by the bandits.
In a statement released by his chief press secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda stated: “To guarantee that our medical professionals can carry out their essential responsibilities without fear, we are rethinking our security strategy. “Our top priority continues to be the safety of our residents and healthcare professionals.
