Funke Akindele opened up about the emotional weight she had been carrying in silence and the moment she realised she could no longer hold it in during Chude’s talk show.

“I told myself that I couldn’t keep doing this. You must talk,” she said. The actress and director disclosed that she felt totally overwhelmed following the death of her mother and a period of severe personal hardship.

She had always supported therapy, but she never really gave in to it. Why? “I was always trying to be strong,” she said.

She broke down because she had no one to really talk to and was feeling pressured by her family, society, and her own grief. She was in pain, but she was reluctant to get help from a professional. “I assumed they would transport it.

People would discuss me. People would be aware of my business. But when it all got to be too much, she finally talked to a therapist, and it helped. I talked to my therapist about things I couldn’t share with others. I’m also better.
