9Mobile, previously known as Etisalat in Nigeria, is one of Nigeria’s four major network providers. In my earlier postings, I addressed in depth how to resolve name difficulties with your network provider Sim, and this will be the final piece I will write on the subject, ensuring that I cover all different Sim users in Nigeria.
Since the past few years, 9mobile hasn’t been very good at providing network and other services in Nigeria, and some users of this sim even allege that the network firm doesn’t even give services in around 50% of Lagos, and the 9mobile network doesn’t even operate in some part of Nigeria, especially if you don’t live in one of major states like Abuja and Lagos.
So this content is only for the few 9mobile’s remaining stable subscribers, who utilize this sim for a variety of purposes such as tying it to their personal accounts, bank information, other applications, and registrations.
There were some rumors in early 2025 about 9mobile shutting down, and they wrote back to the public that they are not closing soon and have never closed, and when I found more information about them before writing this, it’s true that 9mobile is still very active in Nigeria to the few customers that they may have left, compared to the likes of MTN, Glo, and Airtel, which are topping the chart of network providers in Nigeria.
Many 9mobile customers also experience issues with mismatched SIM and NIN numbers. This can block access to critical services such as NIN-SIM verification, bank transactions, and JAMB registrations. Let’s go on to the remedy for fixing the name on your 9mobile Sim with Nin.
What You Need
- NIN Slip (with the correct name).
- The 9mobile SIM number.
- A valid identification card.
- Proof of address.
Note: If you did not register the SIM card, someone else did, go along with the person or make a video call for the staff to confirm that the original owner is aware about the changing of information.
Steps for Updating Your 9Mobile SIM Name
- Go to a nearby 9mobile Experience Center.
- Request a SIM detail update to match your NIN.
- Present your documents and complete the form.
- Validate your NIN with NIMC. Once accepted, your SIM will be updated.
Virtual NIN (VNIN):
- Dial *996*3# on your 9mobile line.
- Create a VNIN token.
- Submit it to the service center rather than your actual NIN.
Important Advice
If your NIN slip have problems, visit the NIMC office to have them corrected before going to 9mobile.
By matching your SIM card registration name to your NIN, you lessen the likelihood of blocked services or rejections during critical identification verifications.
All Nigerian network providers now make this process simple by offering service centers and virtual NIN integration.
