Five Resident Electoral Commissioners have been appointed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the Senate. The confirmation came after the Committee on INEC’s report was presented during Wednesday plenary.
The committee’s chairman, Sen. Simon Lalong of the APC-Plateau, gave the presentation. Umar Mukhtar (Borno), Dr. Johnson Sinkiem, Bayelsa, and Umar Garba, representing Kano, Sa’ad Idris (Bauchi), and Chukwemeka Ibeziako (Anambra), were the RECs confirmed, according to NAN reports.
In his presentation, Lalong stated that during the screening process, the committee took into account the nominees’ resumes, work histories, and professional development.
He added that all of the nominees were qualified for the position and that they all had good answers to questions. “This committee hereby recommends that the senate confirm the nominees after carefully reviewing all of the nominees’ pertinent documents and giving careful consideration to their exposure, experiences, performances, qualifications, and integrity,” he said.
