In Benin City, Edo State, a 32-year-old fashion designer named Mrs. Sarah David and her 3-month-old daughter were allegedly electrocuted.
According to information gathered, the incident took place on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, near the Benin-Agbor road Oregbeni area.
It was discovered that at the time of the regrettable incident, the woman was carrying the baby on her back. It was discovered that the woman stepped on a live electric cable that had fallen from one of the electricity poles while she was strolling along a flooded road in the area following a significant downpour.
According to an eyewitness account, one of the deceased’s children was extremely fortunate when a young man who was walking beside him took the child and went in a different direction.
He said that a young woman was electrocuted for carrying her newborn on her back. On the way home, she and her infant were electrocuted.
She stepped on a live electric cable that had fallen from one of the nearby electricity poles as she was walking through one of the flooded roads that surrounded the Oregbeni axis of the Benin-Agbor highways in Benin City.
Before the woman’s and her baby’s bodies were taken from the flooded area following the incident, some locals urged the Benin Electricity Distribution Company’s (BEDC) authorities to cut off the area’s electricity supply.
“Some residents helped some police officers from the Oregbeni Police Division remove the corpses.” However, she was fortunate that the second child did not perish with her because a young man who was accompanying them as they attempted to navigate the erosion assisted in carrying the small child away from her. The three would have been electrocuted otherwise.
He claimed that the young man had taken the child and gone in a different direction.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Samuel Ibom, the deceased’s husband, characterised his wife as the family’s primary provider. Ibom claimed that prior to the regrettable event, his wife, who was from Ebonyi State, worked as a fashion designer.
Just a few days prior to the incident, he claimed to have received a job offer. However, he made a plea to governments and well-meaning people to help him raise the money he needed to pay his wife’s bride price.
He pleaded with people and governments to provide him with financial assistance so that he could pay her bride price before burying her and my child.
